Craftsmanship & construction
Every cylinder begins with our proprietary, in-house engineered chassis. The internal structure is precision CNC-routed, forming a ribbed MDF sub-frame that delivers exceptional strength while maintaining a clean, seamless silhouette.
A flexible MDF skin is carefully wrapped around this structure in a process reminiscent of traditional boat building. Real wood veneer sheets are then hand-applied by our woodworkers — a painstaking and highly skilled process that creates the appearance of a monolithic solid hardwood form.
The result is a perfectly balanced cylinder with architectural precision and rich patina.
Finish
Hardwood cylinders are sealed as standard with a professional-grade, low-sheen, low-VOC varnish. This provides durability while enhancing the natural character, depth and figure of the timber.
Plinths can be supplied unvarnished upon request; however, please note that the surface will have a more matte appearance and may not display the same richness of tone or depth of colour.
Shadow-gap detail
Our round plinths feature a discreet, removable shadow gap base which allows you to:
Place the plinth directly on the floor for a grounded, sculptural presence.
Raise the plinth by 6mm or more to allow AV cables to pass discreetly beneath.
Eliminate the need for visible cable cut-outs or “mouse holes”.
This adaptable detail allows seamless integration into gallery, exhibition and domestic environments.
Timber options
We offer a curated selection of premium hardwood veneers:
European oak (Quercus robur)
A durable, light-to-medium brown hardwood with a straight grain and distinctive sweeping figure. Renowned for strength and natural resistance to decay, it offers timeless architectural presence.
Sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricum)
A rich, chestnut-toned hardwood often referred to as African mahogany. With elegant ribbon grain and warm depth, it provides a sustainable and sophisticated alternative to traditional mahogany.
American black walnut (Juglans nigra)
One of North America’s most prized hardwoods, celebrated for its deep chocolate tones and refined straight grain. A classic choice for luxury interiors.
Maple (Acer species)
Light, creamy and finely textured, maple offers a clean, contemporary aesthetic suited to bright and minimal display contexts.
Heavy-duty & specialist commissions
We regularly engineer plinths for substantial weight loads — including works exceeding 2,000kg, such as commissions for the sculptor Tony Cragg.
For particularly demanding applications, we offer Heavy Duty and Super Heavy Duty specifications. As these projects require precise structural consultation, they are not available for online purchase.
