Rust-effect Artplinths 

Our rusted metal effect pedestals are a great solution to providing a lightweight, highly tactile and authentic-feeling rusted-steel effect. These medium-density fibreboard core plinths have been treated and carefully finished with a special-effects ferrous surface process to create a rusted iron look with plenty of surface patina and rusted metal quality in the distinctive red caused by water and oxidation of ferrous metals. These plinths are custom made to order and are suitable for indoor use only. Artplinths rust-effect display columns are made using a ferrous compound and have a look similar to rusted metal or Corten steel. Each pedestal will be unique due to the hand-applied process. Note that this is not a paint effect rather a ferrous application, and it is very visually effective.

Made by hand in our London workshop. Bespoke sizes and super-heavy-duty applications are possible.

Duty levels (Please let us know the approximate load weight of your object at checkout.) 

Standard duty 12mm Mitred plinth with a 12mm or ½ inch panel thickness.
Loading: Nominally up to 25kg of spread weight.

Reinforced 12mm We add internal MDF ribs for structure. Suitable for middle-weight art objects. Loading: Nominally up to 50kg of spread weight.

Heavy duty 18mm This is a thicker, more robust ¾ inch product. We will add extra internal structure to suit each job.
Loading: Nominally up to 100kg of spread weight.

Glass cases : 6 sided glass case with Locking door. 5mm toughened glass.
Separate case with glass base sits on top of plinth. 

Perspex cases: 5 sided 5mm (occasionally 6mm) branded perspex. 5mm Mitred cement jointed clear Acrylic display hoods. Plinth hood attaches to plinth with 12mm rebated top (boss) 2 screws in small countersunk holes keep the case in place.

Plinths for very heavy loads We call this Super heavy Duty but it’s not available on the website as we would prefer to speak to you so we make sure all specifications are correct. We regularly make plinths for weight in the hundreds of kilos – I think the record still stands at 2000kg for some works for Tony Cragg. Please email us to discuss your requirements.

Please note that most of the plinths on the website are custom made to order. Our anticipated lead times are as follows:
